Panthers Fall on the Road to Cougars
Caleb Coleman scored a layup and a three-pointer to propel Averett to an early 9-2 run in the first three minutes of the game. Deshone Hicks hit a jumper to pull Ferrum within one, 13-12 with just over 12 minutes to play in the first half. Calvin Washington gave the Panther's their first lead of the game on a layup with 6:26 remaining in the half. Marcus Neal's layup as time expired only put the Panthers down by one 35-34 at the half.
Averett used a pair of free throws from Jem Lowrance, three-pointers by Jalon Rowell and Coleman to give them their largest lead of the game, 62-49 with just over 10 minutes to play in the game. Ferrum was able to pull within three, after Neal's jumper capped a 9-0 run with 7:40 left to play. Johnny Franklin gave the Panthers the lead back on a three-pointer, 72-71 with just under two minutes to play.
Averett's defense held Ferrum scoreless the remainder of the game and used a jumper from Bryson McLaughlin and Coleman to secure the victory.
