Alleghany County Schools: Alleghany High School welcomed most students in 2023-24 school year

Alleghany High School had the highest enrollment among Alleghany County schools, welcoming 832 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed at the time, 52.3% of them were male, and 47.7% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 81.9% of Alleghany High School's total enrollment.

Among the five schools in Alleghany County, Clifton Middle School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 622 students, while Mountain View Elementary School welcomed 435 students to be ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Alleghany High School is part of Alleghany County Public Schools District, which roughly covers schools within Alleghany County, with its main office in Covington.

In the previous school year, Alleghany High School also had the highest number of students among Alleghany County schools.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
