Men's Soccer Picks up First Win on the Road

 The Ferrum College men's soccer team picked up a non-conference road win against Warren Wilson College tonight, 1-0 at Hank Steinbrecher Field.

THE BASICS

Leo Galpin netted the game winner off a free kick, 30 yards out in the 15th minute of the game. Ferrum had several opportunities to put another one in the back of the net throughout the game putting up a game high 19 shots, 13 on goal. Owls goalkeeper Parker Davis saved 11 of the 13 shots on goal, to keep it a close 1-0 game for 90 minutes. Daniel Golden earned the win and shutout for the Panthers, saving eight of the 11 shots he saw on goal.

Ferrum played the final 10 minutes of the game down to 10 men, after Kwame Semackor was shown his second yellow card of the game and received a red card for his booking. The Panthers were able to withstand a final push by the owls to preserve the shutout and get the win.

"Proud of the boys for fighting through to get the win. We started a very young team tonight and they fought every minute to get the result. Lots to work on but, happy to pick up our first win of the season and a clean sheet!" --Head Coach Matt Cureton

NEXT UP

Coach Cureton's team will play Southern Virginia University in their home opener at Penn-Rodiger Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on  Saturday, September 10.
