Christian Heritage School (CHS) is pleased to announce the naming of Greg Phillips as head coach of the varsity girls basketball program. Phillips joins the school’s flourishing athletic department under the leadership of Athletic Director of Development Hal Lamb and Athletic Director of Operations Chad Jordan. Amongst Phillips’ new colleagues include CHS alumnus and coach Tyler Watkins (’07), leader of the varsity boys basketball program.

Phillips has proven to be a well-loved and respected leader throughout the surrounding regions during his tenure as a coach. He and his wife, Briana, have two young daughters, Kennedy and Lily. Phillips is a 2006 alumnus of Darlington School and was a highly decorated student-athlete in multiple sports.

Phillips’ basketball career continued at the collegiate level, as he was a member of the basketball team at Piedmont College. He graduated from Shorter College with a Bachelor of Science in History/Political Science and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Gordon College.

Prior to joining the CHS community, Phillips served as a basketball coach at several institutions, including a stint at Darlington School. He recently completed his seventh season as head coach of the varsity boys basketball program at Mount Paran Christian School, where he has been employed since 2012. Under his leadership, the boys saw numerous playoff appearances. Phillips’ success secured him the title of the Georgia High School Association’s Region 6B “Coach of the Year” in 2018.

While Phillips will certainly hold an active role on the court, he will also serve as the school’s Assistant Athletic Director.

CHS Athletic Director of Development Hal Lamb spoke on the school’s decision when seeking to fill such a critical role in athletics and finding a leader to serve amongst one of the school’s four pillars: Athletics that Build. “I am very excited about the hiring of Greg Phillips,” said Lamb. “I believe he is the perfect fit to lead our girls basketball program and is a man of strong character who does a tremendous job of coaching basketball.”

Coach Tyler Watkins (’07) is looking forward to the opportunity to lead alongside Phillips. “I have witnessed first-hand how hard Greg’s teams play and compete, and he prepares his athletes

extremely well to perform in any capacity they are given,” said Watkins. “Greg will do a fantastic job building the culture of the program. He possesses both energy and passion, and his commitment to excellence both on and off the court is exactly what we need at CHS.”

CHS families and friends are invited to a drop-in reception to meet the Phillips family on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., at the CHS High School Campus.
