Ferrum College Athletics issued the following announcement on June 10.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District Football Team has been announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and Ferrum College's Cade Rouse and Jack Sheehan have been named to the first team for District 5, which encompasses 12 states (AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, MO, MS, NC, PR, SC, TN, VA).
A senior offensive lineman from Rural Retreat, Virginia, Rouse played football four seasons at Ferrum. He earned second team All-Conference this season in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Rouse was also Ferrum's 2020 Big Green Award recipient, an award given annually to the graduating senior who best demonstrates the qualities of courage, hustle, and desire as a role model for his fellow teammates. The award is in memory of the seven former Ferrum football players and Coach Rick Tolley who perished in the Marshall University football team plane crash in November of 1970.
Sheehan is a senior placekicker from State College, Pennsylvania. He was also an All-ODAC second team selection this season. Sheehan played football one season for the Panthers and played lacrosse four seasons. He was Ferrum's 2021 President's Cup recipient.
Both players are led by first-year Head Coach Cleive Adams. As first team Academic All-District selections, Rouse and Sheehan are now in contention for Academic All-America honors. That team will be announced later this month.
