HUNTINGTON COURT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH: Letter to the Huntington Court

Lawyer

Huntington Court United Methodist Church issued the following announcement on June 10.

Dear Huntington Court Friends:

On March 13, 2020, we were asked to close our churches; however, the following Sunday, 5 of us met and we still offered 2 live digital services. It was hard to go through holidays like Easter and Christmas with just a few of us putting together weekly worship; however, it was important for us to do so, for leading worship is what we are called to do. Late last fall the VAUMC loosened some of the restrictions and allowed us to have in person worship, yet we did not believe it was an experience that our congregation would appreciate since there would be no singing and all (including the pastor) had to be masked. Hence, we offered an in person service at 4:00 pm and continued our live digital services at 8:30 and 11:00 am. In fact, while we had been offering digital services for 5 years prior to the pandemic, we quickly saw the importance of making sure that we were intentional in ministering to both those inside our walls and online since God calls us to go make disciples of all.

As you are aware, this past Sunday, we resumed our 8:30 and 11am worship services and ended the 4pm service. Since we are trying to provide a safe worship experience, the services are still socially distanced and abbreviated. We will probably remain like this for the near future. Also, in an effort to not lose the work we have done to minister to those in a digital environment, we have tried to slowly ease back to normal by providing a hybrid approach much like the service you experienced pre-Covid. Something similar to what we have been offering on-line is what we offered this past Sunday. We hope you will be patient with us as we make this transition, for we believe that those we minister to outside of our walls are just as important as those inside our walls.

Still, all said, we will continue to transition over the next few months. Our next change will take place on July 11 when the 8:30 service will resume as our traditional service and the 11am service will be our modern worship experience. Both services will be offered in person and online. While the online services will be aired live, they will also be on both YouTube and Facebook to view at your convenience at a later time. Also, the services will continue to be abbreviated for the near future. Additionally, during this interim period, Holy Communion will be served on the first Sunday of the month for both the 8:30 and 11:00 am services, except for the 8:30 service this coming Sunday since Communion was not served this past week.

Again, we appreciate your support and ask for your continued prayers and patience as we move forward as a church.

Yours in Christ’s Service

Jeff Wilson and the Post-Covid Re-entry Group (P.R.G.)
