Ferrum College Athletics issued the following announcement on June 8.
Ferrum College senior Alex Mattson has been named to the 2020-21 Women's Soccer Academic All-District V Team as a first-team selection, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in June.
A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mattson finished her senior year with with a goal and an assist in seven starts in the Panther midfield. Mattson was a Boone Honors graduate after a perfect 4.0 grade point average with majors in Pre-Professional Health Sciences (Pre-Med) and Psychology and minors in Biology, Chemistry and Spanish.
Mattson is now a candidate for Academic All-America. Ferrum has had eight Academic All-Americans thus far; three first-team selections, four second-team and one third-team. If successful, Mattson would become Ferrum's ninth honoree.
