Enrollment in Alleghany County Public Schools District decreased from previous year

The only school district in Alleghany County suffered declining enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 2,836 students in Alleghany County Public Schools District, 1.5% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Alleghany County was steady with the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 51.1% of them were male, and 48.9% were female.

Data also showed that most of the studets were white, representing 81.9% of Alleghany County Public Schools District's total enrollment.

Alleghany County Public Schools District has a main office in Low Moor and is the only school district within Alleghany County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
