Panthers Fall to Generals in Quarterfinals of ODAC Tournament

The Ferrum College women's basketball team fell 85-69 in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament against Washington and Lee University in the Salem Civic Center this afternoon.

THE BASICS
Kayleigh Shreffler's three-pointer gave Ferrum a 12-11 lead with 3:17 remaining in a high scoring first quarter. Washington and Lee's Sofia Feigleson knocked down a three-pointer and Mary Shleusner stole a pass and hit a layup to end the quarter ahead 23-20.

The Generals outsocred Ferrum 22-11 in the second quarter to grow a 45-31 lead at halftime. Grace O'Connor's layup capped off a 8-0 scoring run in the three minutes of the quarter to help grow their lead. Demiesha Canada and Aisha Martin both made shots to cut the lead to 31-24, before Washington and Lee was able to grow it back to a double digit lead.

The Generals were able to grow their lead to 20 points, on O'Connors layup with just five and hlaf minutes to play in the quarter. Allyson Casell scored six of Ferrum's nine points in the quarter to cut it a 62-46 lead.

UP NEXT
The loss closes out Ferrum's 2022-23 season. The Generals advance to the ODAC Tournament semifinals Saturday, where they will face the winner of #4 Guilford College vs #5 Randolp College at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. The ODAC Tournament champion will collect the league's automatic qualifier into the the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championships.
