Hollins XC Opens Season at Eagle Challenge

Hollins University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 3

The Basics

Event: Eagle XC Challenge hosted by Bridgewater (4k)

Location: Bridgewater, Va.

The Lead: The Hollins University Cross Country team opened its 2021 season by taking part in the Eagle Challenge hosted by Bridgewater College on Friday night. 

Highlights & Notes 

  • HU's top finisher was Harper Dillon who posted a time of 19:16.6. Samantha Stuhlmiller was next member of the Green and Gold to cross the finish line with a time of 19:44.7'
  • Kaitlyn Christoffersen (20:27.0), Jenna Johnston (20:38.1), Seaira Siv (21:44.9) all scored for HU.
  • In addition,  Gabrielle Wilson (25:12..6) and Jacquelyne Abe (27:42.6) competed for the Green and Gold.
  • Each of HU's runners were taking part in their first collegiate meets. 
  • Abe, who is a native of Africa, was competing in her first athletic competition ever.
  • The meet featured three of the ODAC's top teams in the host Eagles, Roanoke and Washington and Lee who placed eight runners in the top-10 spots to take the team title. 
  • Emily Smeds of BC won the individual title.
