Ferrum College Athletics issued the following announcement on July 16
Ferrum College Head Women's Wrestling Coach, Breonnah Neal, has announced that she will step down from her position to pursue other opportunities. Neal recently completed her second season at the helm of the Ferrum women's wrestling program.
During Neal's tenure, the Panthers achieved a number of milestones, notably the first All-American in Ferrum women's wrestling history when Alisha Elizalde placed sixth at the 2020 Women's Collegiate Wrestling Championships (WCWC). This past season, Kat Pendergrass earned All-America honors when she placed eighth at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) and the team recorded its highest finish ever at a national championship.
"I am extremely thankful for the work Bre has done as our women's wrestling coach these past two seasons," said Director of Athletics, John Sutyak. "Under her guidance, the program achieved new heights in having back-to-back all-American wrestlers and recording our highest finish at the women's collegiate wrestling national championship this past season. I know she is poised to do great things as she moves on in her post-Ferrum career."
Neal was a four-time All-American in the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association, including a national title in 2017 at King University. She also had a pair of national runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2016.
"I'd like to thank the Ferrum College administration and John Sutyak for their support and trust in me," said Neal. "The wrestlers worked hard and we accomplished a lot these past two years. I wish them all the best in the future."
A national search will begin immediately to find Neal's successor.
