The City of Roanoke Office of Voter Registration and Elections has issued a press release to clarify the commonsense entrance for the William Fleming Polling Location, located in the Peters Creek voting precinct. This announcement comes ahead of the Democratic Party primary, which takes place on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Due to the beginning of summer school, voters will be unable to use the front entrance of William Fleming High School. Instead, voters must enter the William Fleming Annex Gym from the back side of the building, labeled Door #15, from Ordway Drive. To help guide voters to the proper entrance, ample “Vote Here” signage with arrows and patriotic balloons will be visible to guide voters around the building.

“Voter accessibility as well as election integrity are my top goals during every election contest,” said Andrew Cochran, Director of Elections and General Registrar. “We acknowledge this is a confusing layout for the Peters Creek polling location and so we are working with school administrators to secure the cafeteria at the front of the building for the November General Election. In the meantime, for this week’s primary, we are asking the press and the entire community to help us guide voters to the proper entrance at Door #15 on the back side of Fleming.”

All polling locations across the City of Roanoke will be open from 6 AM to 7 PM on Tuesday, June 20th for the Democratic Party primary. The deadline to return ballots issued by mail is 7 PM, and all mailed ballots must be postmarked no later than June 20, 2023.
