The Gun Violence Prevention Commission will start accepting grant applications from non-profit organizations focused on prevention, intervention, and response initiatives to reduce gun violence in the community on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. The primary focus areas for these programs should be in Northwest Roanoke. Gun Violence Prevention Commission will award grants up to $30,000 for programs that focus on: youth development, mental health and trauma-informed counseling for families affected by violence, workforce development, victim services and outreach, and neighborhood outreach and safety programs like street clean-ups, code concerns, education, community events. Activities and programs that receive a gun violence prevention grant must be completed by June 30, 2024, and comply with American Rescue Plan Act reporting requirements.
While grant applications will be accepted through Sunday, December 31, 2023, interested applicants must attend a virtual grant application meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 7 PM.
