The City of Roanoke is currently in the process of selecting its next Chief of Police. 

With over 20 candidates from nine states applying as of August 3, the City Manager has moved six candidates forward in the selection process. This involves two distinct interview panels facilitated by the City Manager, one internal and one external, integrating perspectives from various City Administration members and different community sectors to comprehensively assess the prospective leaders. Furthermore, the Roanoke Police Officers Association will be lending their expertise to meet each of the prospective candidates, extending an overview of police facilities and current operations as well as conducting a community tour.

Throughout the selection process there are opportunities for community engagement to ensure residents are given a voice. Now through August 21st, you may complete the open survey and share your thoughts concerning crucial areas like necessary past experience, vital characteristics, immediate concerns, and the nature of community engagement.  At a future date, the City Manager will select one or more finalists to participate in a community open house where any member of the community may meet the candidate(s) and share their thoughts and opinions with City Manager Cowell prior to an offer of employment being made.
