Panther Men Beat Hornets in Double OT Thriller!

- Deshone Hicks had a game-high 27 points to lead Ferrum College men's basketball to a 75-71 double overtime win over Shenandoah University tonight Swartz Gymnasium in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play tonight.

THE BASICS
Calvin Washington slammed home a dunk to get the crowd on there feet just four minutes into the game. Malik Jordans three-pointer gave Shenandoah a 5 point lead, 17-12 with 7:19 left to play in the first half.  Hicks stole the inbound pass following a timeout and threw down a monstrous dunk to highlight a 12-0 run by the Panthers over two and half minutes of play.

The Hornets didn't stay quiet for long, Anthony Cowans three, brought them with in two 24-22 with three minutes to play in the half. Hicks again topped a 7-0 run to the end the half when he hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in the half to take a 33-24 lead to the locker room.

Johnny Franklin's three at 16:46 in the second half gave Ferrum their largest lead of the day, 38-26. Following a Shenandoah timeout, Brantley Springer scored five of his teams seven points on their run to pull within five, 38-33. A Marcus Neal steal led to a fastbreak layup by Hicks to give the Panthers their second double digit lead of the half, 46-35. 

After another Hornet timeout, they stormed on a 10-0 to pull within one, 46-45 with 5:03 to play in the game. Joshua Stephen hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 57-57 with nine seconds to play. Ferrum was sent to the free throw line with one second remaining and was unable to make them.

In the first overtime, Richard Roberts and Marcus Taylor scored baskets to give Shenandoah 61-57 lead. Following a missed free throw, Hicks dribbled down the court, weaving through the defense and jumped from the free throw line and his floater rattled the rim and fell in to beat the buzzer and second us to a second overtime. 

Ferrum then outscored Shenandoah 12-8 in the second overtime period to close out the game. The Panthers scored seven of their 12 points from the charity stripe, six of those coming as the final points, were enough to seal the victory in double overtime.
