  • The Short Story: Ethan Rohan made a dunk at 18:45 in the first half and the Roanoke men's basketball never relinquished the lead en route to a 75-67 win over Transylvania (Ky.) to finish up action at the Music City Classic in Gallatin, Tennessee. Kasey Draper led all scorers with 19 points in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Maroons took the lead just 1:15 into the game and stretched it into an 8-1 at 12:51 in the first half on Joshua Morse layup. The Pioneers would pull even at 12-12and 14-14, but a dunk by Joshua McClary at 6:53 put the Maroons back on top as part of a 7-0 run with Draper capping the run with a made jump shot and a made free throw on the play.
  • Roanoke ran to another 6-0 run to finish out the first half to take a 33-22 lead into the locker room.
  • The run continued into the second half with a 5-0 run, finishing with an Efosa U-Edosomwan free throw. The Maroons kept Transylvania scoreless for 5:30, stretching between the two halves. A layup by U-Edosomwan at 14:09 gave Roanoke its biggest lead of the game at 21 points.
  • A late run by the Pioneers saw the Maroons' lead cut to six with 2:00 left in the game. The teams went back and forth over the next 120 seconds with a Roanoke free throw with three seconds left capping the 75-67 win.  
BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke shot 44.6% from the field on 25-of-56 shooting. The Maroons did a large part of their damage at the free throw line going 21-for-39 while keeping the Pioneers at 11-of 21 from the charity stripe.
  • The Maroons led in several categories including assists (14-12) and fast-break points (12-8).
  • Draper's 19 points led three Roanoke players in double-figures with U-Edosomwan adding 16 and 11 for Zach Rosenthal. Rohan had the team-high in rebounds with eight.
