Panthers Grab First Football Win, 31-17 Over Guilford

 Ferrum College broke a 17-17 tie in the fourth quarter, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the final 11 minutes of play, to earn an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) football win over Guilford College this afternoon at Armfield Athletic Center.

THE BASICS

Seth Deaton put Ferrum out in front when he split the uprights from 36 yards out early in the second quarter. Terrence Scales recovered a Guilford fumble at the GC 22 yard line on the ensuing kickoff return and the Panthers made it a 10-0 game two plays later when Joshua Ellerbe rumbled into the end zone from 17 yards out.

Quarterback Bailey Baker was intercepted on Guilford's next drive by Cole Epperley, who returned the ball 50 yards to the GC six yard line. Ferrum capitalized four plays later with Monzelle Campbell crashing into the end zone from a yard out to make it 17-0 with 7:37 left in the second quarter.

Guilford rallied to get on the scoreboard before halftime, with Baker hitting Brodey King for a 12-yard scoring strike with 3:10 left in the half. Baker added a third-quarter touchdown pass to Kyle Lovett at 11:43, then Cameron Haiduven converted a 36-yard field goal attempt at 3:31 to tie the game at 17-17.

Quarterback Joshua Luckett scored on a seven-yard rushing attempt at 10:42 of the fourth quarter to put Ferrum back in front 24-17, then Luckett scored another rushing touchdown, this time from two yards out, with 2:39 left in regulation for the final count.
