Head Football Coach Cleive Adams has finalized start times for the Ferrum College 2022 football schedule. The Panthers will play five times each at home and on the road this fall.
The season kicks off with a Thursday night game September 1 at University of Virginia at Wise, an NCAA Division II program. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. in Wise, Virginia.
Nine days later, on Saturday, September 10, the Panthers face another first-time opponent in Muskingum University, an NCAA Division III program located in New Concord, Ohio. Kickoff for the home opener is set for 1:00 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
On September 17, Ferrum will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 1:00 p.m. game at LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia. The game will be a matchup of teams hat are an even 3-3 against each other, all while competing within the USA South Athletic Conference, which Ferrum left in 2018 to join the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
"I think we have a great football schedule this year," said Adams. "We open with a pair of first-time opponents, including a Thursday night road game, and October will be an exciting month with five straight ODAC games. We hope our fans will want to be part of the journey this fall."
ODAC play begins on Saturday, October 1, at Shenandoah University with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in Winchester, Virginia. That game is one of five straight league games in the month of October for Adams' team.
A week later on October 8, the Panthers are back at home against Hampden-Sydney College with a 3:30 p.m. start time.
October 15 will see the Panthers take on defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee University at 2:00 p.m. during Homecoming Weekend. In last season's game with the Generals, played in Lexington, Virginia, Ferrum scored with less that six minutes left in regulation to go back out in front 24-21, only to see W&L march down the field on the next drive and score the game-winning touchdown just inside the two-minute warning to claim the ODAC title.
Ferrum travels to Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, October 22 for a 1:00 p.m. game, then is back at home October 29 against Bridgewater College with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
The Panthers play November 5 at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, then close out regular season play November 12 at home against ODAC newcomer Averett University. Both games kick off at 1:00 p.m.
