Baseball Drops Heartbreaker at Pfeiffer

Ferrum College dropped a non-conference baseball game tonight at Pfeiffer University, falling 7-6 at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the walkoff win.

THE BASICS

Ferrum scored when Ozzie Torres doubled to right center in the opening frame, the advanced to third and scored on a wild pitch.

Pfeiffer put a run across the plate in the bottom half of the first inning to tie the game, then took a 4-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second and one in the fourth. Torres scored on another wild pitch in the fifth inning, only to see the Falcons score one in the bottom half of the frame to make it a 5-2 game.

In the sixth inning, Justin Brady doubled down the left field line to score Clayton Michael, then Ben Thomas singled up the middle to score Dylan Sereno and Brady, tying the game at 5-5.

Torres singled up the middle in the eighth inning, and Sereno advanced to third then scored on a muffed throw and the Panthers clung to a 6-5 lead.

Pfeiffer scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to end the game, one on a walk and the other on a hit batsman.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will be back in action Saturday, April 9, at Virginia Wesleyan University. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader is set for a noon start in Virginia Beach.
