2021 Big Band Annual Dinner at Hotel Roanoke on October 21

Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

2021 BIG BAND ANNUAL DINNER AT HOTEL ROANOKE

Join us for a Big Band themed dinner at the lovely Hotel Roanoke. Guests will enjoy a full plated dinner with a cash bar. The main entre is the Florentine Statler Chicken spinach, Italian cheeses, and roasted tomato sauce. There is also the roasted vegetable power bowl (gluten free) that includes beets, sweet potato, carrots, cauliflower, brown rice, and lemon tahini sauce. If you prefer vegan, you will be prompted to make this selection at registration.

Cocktail or black tie attire is recommended. We will also be hosting our annual silent auction to support our scholarship programs.

We welcome Brigadier General Gregory Otey as the guest speaker. The title of his talk is "Great Leadership". General Otey was born and raised in Roanoke Virginia.  He attended college at the Virginia Military Institute where he played football and earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation from VMI in 1987 he began his career in the United States Air Force as a pilot, leading various organizations throughout the Air Force and retiring in 2016 as a Brigadier General.  After retiring, he moved back to Roanoke and worked for a local construction company as a Special Projects Executive, Director of Equipment and Director of LEAN Construction. Greg recently joined Barnhill Contracting Company in North Carolina where he is the Vice President of Leadership and Development fulfilling his passion for coaching and continuous learning.  

His distinguished career in the Air Force includes service as the Senior Air Force Planner, Joint Chiefs of Staff and National Security Council Matters, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, as well as a variety of other staff positions. He served as the Senior Executive Officer to the Vice Chief of Staff at the Pentagon, and was recently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Director, COMISAF Liaison to the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

He and his wife, Lisa Stewart Otey, reside in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. They have 3 sons, Jacob (26), Chris (24), and Luke (18).  We are honored to have Brigadier General Gregory Otey as our speaker.
