Ferrum College Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 3
Director of Athletics John Sutyak has announced the hiring of Samantha Wangner as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Ferrum College. Wangner will work with Head Athletic Trainer Seth Crawford and his staff to manage the Panthers sports medicine program that serves over 500 student-athletes annually.
Wangner comes to Ferrum from Longwood University, where she most recently served as a intern for the Field Hockey and Women's Lacrosse programs. She also assisted in many soccer and lacrosse tournaments in the Richmond, Virginia area. Prior to Longwood, Wangner served as an athletic training student assistant at Virginia Tech with the Women's Lacrosse team.
In addition to her team experiences, Wangner also spend time as a first responder for the Special Olympics Powerlifting Competitions that were held by Longwood.
"We are happy and excited to have Sam join the staff here at Ferrum College," said Crawford. "She is coming out of a terrific program at Longwood and we are looking forward to seeing how she makes our community a better place."
Wangner earned her Bachelor of Science from Longwood in May 2019, with a major in Athletic Training. She then earned her Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Sport Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania in May 2021.
Wangner officially began work at Ferrum on August 2.
